Meet Dr. Terryln L. Cury Avery - Change Agent #0033 of our #SCN1000ChangeAgents Series.

Dr. Terrlyn L. Curry Avery is the creator of Pastology, the cutting edge field that focuses on the synergy between pastoring and psychology. She holds a Ph.D. from Hofstra University and a Masters of Divinity from Yale University. She calls herself pastologist, speaker, author and retreat leader. Dr. Terrlyn L. Curry Avery has a unique approach to healing, transformation, and manifestation. She places the emphasis on your journey toward sacred intelligence: your ability to tap into your internal source in order to move toward intelligent choices. Those choices are intended to honor the Sacred and help you manifest your greatness, while simultaneously embracing the humanity of those around you.

Dr. Curry Avery believes that ‘relating’ on both a spiritual and human level is crucial to helping ourselves and others manifest our greatness and creating more harmonious life sustaining relationships.

Dr. Curry Avery works with highly influential and committed leaders who need spiritual and psychological support as they transform the world by creating a legacy of service, prosperity, and greatness.

    Website: sacredintelligence.com

    Causes that matter:

In her work both as an ordained minister and as a licensed psychologist, Dr. Curry Avery has also observed how religion has served as both a healing balm and as an instrument of wounding for many individuals. These wounds range from rejecting all connections with the Sacred to self-hatred to remaining in abusive relationships to refusing medical intervention to a belief that “MY” religion is the only religion of moral authority.

Dr. Curry Avery desires to help heal religious wounds through teaching individuals to recognize the impact of these wounds on a personal level (e.g., depression, poor self-worth, unhealthy life styles, and toxic relationships) as well as on the broader society (e.g., violence, hate, discrimination, and hostility). Facilitating the healing process requires an understanding of the complexities of religious convictions and its relationships to one’s psychological and emotional development.

Meet Eileen Giovia - Change Agent #0032 of our #SCN1000ChangeAgents Series.

Anyone that’s dealt with cancer knows it’s a serious, grueling life experience.

Eileen Giovia is no exception. After facing down a bilateral mastectomy and losing a brother to brain cancer in less than five years, she’s had plenty to be serious about. Yet while all the uplifting cards, flowers, and get-well wishes were great, they also made her a little bit mad. Why was everyone being so glum? All she wanted during those long, difficult months was for someone to give her a reason to smile and laugh out loud.

That’s why Eileen launched Heal and Deal, LLC, a company devoted to reminding everyone that what cancer patients and caregivers really need - and don’t often get - is caring comic relief. Her line of greeting cards and merchandise can help those who don’t know what to say or do, say something that really helps. Eileen’s talks encourage more authentic and open conversations about cancer and cancer treatment, empower patients to honor themselves each step of the way, and teach about the importance of laughter to the healing process. Eileen also provides training to medical professionals on how to improve their communications with their patients and their families.
