Meet Ann Dinwiddie Madden - Change Agent #0079 of our #SCN1000ChangeAgents Series.

Ann Dinwiddie Madden is an American photographer born and raised in New Orleans, LA and now living in Bay Saint Louis, MS. She studied and worked in Paris, Washington, DC and New York City. Her move to Bay ST. Louis, MS afforded her lessons under renowned photographer Sandra Russell Clark as well as mixed media, drawing and encaustic classes from artist Kat Fitzpatrick, who remains a mentor.

She participated in photography workshops and one on one mentoring sessions with PhotoNOLA winner, Deb Schwedhelm. During a workshop in Bay St. Louis, Ann learned an archival image transfer process from Florida photographer, Kim Turner Smith. Soon after, Pass Christian mixed media artist, Michelle Allee approached her to create a habitat for sculptures she had created with nutria skulls collected on the beach after a hurricane. For this, Ann turned to the recently learned image transfer technique to make pieces and breathe life into an imaginary world built out of decay. This collaboration, called Beauty of the Beast, was shown at the Ohr-O’keefe Museum of Art in 2016 and solidified her desire to work in image transfer.

Her photographs and mixed media work have also been shown at Studio Waveland in Waveland, MS, The Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, CO, A. Smith Gallery in Johnson City, TX, The Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA, The Gail Keenan Center at Coast Episcopal School in Long Beach, MS, The Greenhouse on Porter in Ocean Springs, MS The Samuel Marshall Gore Gallery at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS, The Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope, AL and at SlowExposures in Pike County, GA where she was awarded Third Place for her piece “First Position.”

Ann represents herself at Smith & Lens in Bay St. Louis, MS, a gallery she owns with silversmith, Sandy Maggio.
